Admittedly, Sand Springs is not a
very classy place. Still, you would expect a place of this size
to have at least a few good restaurants.
Saturday evening, my husband
and I decided to try a Chinese restaurant name the China Starr
located in a strip mall in Sand Springs. The parking lot was
full, that is usually a good sign. We argued about whether we
had ever eaten there. By the end of the meal, we realized that
we hadn't ever eaten there before because we would surely
remember food that BAD.
We kept getting plate after
plate of food, tasting each item, hoping to find something worth
eating. In the end, we rushed to a local mini mart to get some
strong gum and a soda in an attempt to remove the bad taste left
in our mouth.
Another place worth missing is
the Corner Café II. This is the place for a cheap meal. They
make up for quality with quantity. This really works at the
Corner Café in Tulsa at 11th and Peoria. That café has the run
down ambience that makes you really feel you are slumming. But
the café in Sand Springs is modern with no real décor. No
reason to seek this one out.
You can get a pretty good
breakfast at the Buck Stop but skip it if you are allergic to
cigarette smoke.
If you go up to the Homeland
Shopping Center, you can eat at Subway or at the new Silver
Dollar Cafe, by the drug store. The food is good, but the
chairs are too high for the tables leaving you feeling like you
are balancing your meal on your lap. You can't get breakfast
here, just lunch and supper.
For breakfast we go to nearby
Prattville to the Crescent Café - Good food, reasonable prices,
usually crowded, especially on weekends. Some swear by Goldies,
which is a local chain. I find it too expensive for over cooked
burgers. But next to some of the restaurants locally, they are
downright gourmet.
Of course, Sand Springs has
it's chain restaurants. Rib Crib, Western Sizzlin, McDonalds
etc. You already know what you get there. For the most part,
if you want original, tasty food, drive a bit farther to Tulsa.
If you are content with fast food, then Sand Springs can fill
you up. |
